SYMPTOMS

When you update a customer in Microsoft Dynamics GP, you experience one of the following problems:
  • The account is not updated.
  • You receive a time-out error message.
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The Microsoft Dynamics CRM Connector for Microsoft Dynamics GP is installed.
  • The customer is integrated with an account in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0.
  • The account is linked to many child records. The account may be linked to any of the following types of record:
    • Activities
    • Sales Orders
    • Quotes
    • Opportunities
    • Cases
    • Contacts
  • These child records also contain child records.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

Installation information

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

Install this hotfix on computers that are running the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 server software.

After you install this hotfix, set the value of the PREUPDATEOPTIMIZER registry entry. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Microsoft CRM server, start Registry Editor. Then, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSCRMIntegration
  2. Right-click MSCRMIntegration, point to New, and then click DWORD.
  3. Type PREUPDATEOPTIMIZER, and then press ENTER.
  4. Double-click PREUPDATEOPTIMIZER.
  5. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 1 in the Value data field, and then click OK.

Prerequisites

You must have the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 server software installed to apply this hotfix.

Restart requirement

If you are prompted, restart the computer after you install the hotfix.

Removal information

To remove this hotfix from a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000, use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. System administrators can use the Spuninst.exe tool to remove this hotfix from a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000.
