PowerPoint stops responding or randomly generates an exception when there are too many ink objects in a single presentation on a Windows XP Tablet PC Edition-based computer

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation file that contains many ink objects, PowerPoint stops responding (hangs) or randomly generates an access violation exception.

This problem occurs when PowerPoint is running on a Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition-based computer that has a dual-core processor.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the Inkobj.dll file is corrupted.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:
  • Reduce the number of ink objects in the PowerPoint presentation.
  • Divide a presentation that contains many ink objects into multiple files.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
