On This Page

SYMPTOMS

When you install the Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or the .NET Framework version 1.0 Service Pack 3 (SP3), you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
SLxxx.tmp – Configuration Error
Configuration Error: Unable to load JIT compiler (MSCORJIT.DLL) File may be missing or corrupt.
Please check your setup or rerun setup!
You may also receive additional errors that mention any of the following files:
  • Fusion.dll
  • Mscorjit.dll
  • Mscorlib.dll
  • Mscorsn.dll
  • Mscorwks.dll
  • Perfcounter.dll
  • Corperfmonext.dll
  • Aspnet_isapi.dll
You may also receive these errors when you install Update Rollup 2 for Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 by using Windows Update. Update Rollup 2 automatically installs the .NET Framework version 1.1 and the .NET Framework version 1.1 SP1 if they are not already installed. CAUSE

This problem may occur if there is a significant load on the computer when you start Setup. For example, the problem may occur if it takes longer than five seconds for Setup to start. The problem occurs because of a problem with Setup files for both the .NET Framework version 1.1 SP1 and the .NET Framework version 1.0 SP3.

RESOLUTION

You can safely ignore these errors. The errors do not indicate that there is a problem with Setup or with the computer. Setup will continue correctly.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, close all nonessential programs that are running on the computer before you start Setup for the .NET Framework version 1.1 SP1 or for the .NET Framework version 1.0 SP3.

Note If this problem occurs when you use the OEM recovery media to install Windows XP or Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, restart the installation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
