SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 displays an incorrect amount for the remaining disk space when you click Manage the Search Service. This occurs after you use the Catutil.exe tool to move the index files, property store files, or log files.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the registry keys that SharePoint Portal Server 2003 uses to calculate the remaining disk space are not updated if you use the Catutil.exe tool to move the index files, property store files, or log files.

RESOLUTION

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To resolve this issue, update the values of the following registry entries to point to the correct location:
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SPSSearch\DataDirectory
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SPSSearch\DataDirectory\Default
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SPSSearch\Gathering Manager\DefaultApplicationsPath
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SPSSearch\Gathering Manager\Applications\<GUID>\DefaultProjectPath

Note <GUID> is a placeholder for the GUID for the portal site.
Note You may have to change these keys on any search and index computer in the farm topology.
