When you open a list in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on the Windows SharePoint Services Web site in Internet Explorer, either the primary key field is blank or the whole list is blank in Access 2007

SYMPTOMS

You have a database table that contains a primary key in Microsoft Office Access 2007. You export or move the table as a list in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. When you open the list on the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Web site in Internet Explorer, either the primary key field is blank, or the whole list is blank.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • The primary key column is named "ID," or the column name starts with "ID."
  • The primary key column is a text column.
  • Some records in the primary key column contain only numeric data.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, do not name the primary key column ID. Additionally, do not use any name that starts with ID.

MORE INFORMATION

When you export or move a table from Access 2007 to a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 site, Access 2007 generates a table that is named "Move to SharePoint Site Issues." This table records any issues that you encounter during the export process. In this scenario, Access 2007 creates a record in the table if the following conditions are true:
  • The table contains a field that is named ID.
  • The field is not an Autonumber data type.
In the Issue column of the table, the following message exists:
Field Values will not be auto generated.
In the Reason column of the table, the following message exists:
SharePoint only support Autonumber data for their ID field.
Note In the message text, the word "SharePoint" should read "SharePoint Services."

For more information about how to use a primary key, follow these steps:
  1. Click Microsoft Office Access Help, or press F1.
  2. Type primary key in the Search box.
  3. To view the topics, click Search.
