A Column list in a content type template is not updated on a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 child site

SYMPTOMS

You add a column to a content type template in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. Additionally, you click Yes under Update all content types inheriting from this type on the Site Content Type Advanced Settings page. When you view the Column list in the content type template on the child site, the list is not updated with the column that you added on the parent site.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 parent site does not push the change to content type templates on Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 child sites that do not contain the new column. However, content type templates are updated successfully on child sites that already contain the new column.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
  • Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

Has anyone found a solution or workaround to this?

I have not found a solution or workaround, but I have been to the Microsoft KB site and left feedback stating that they have provided a symptom and cause, but no solution. Perhaps if more people do it they may look into finding/providing a solution. (the feedback appears at the bottom of the page) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926719
