An earlier version of an Office program may not be removed when you install a 2007 Office program
When you upgrade to a 2007 Microsoft Office program, the earlier version of the Microsoft Office program may not be removed.
Note When you upgrade, you would expect the earlier version of the Office program to be removed.
This issue may occur if the following conditions are true:
- The original installation source for the earlier Office program is unavailable.
- Some files in the following folder were deleted, removed, or renamed:
C:\Windows\Installer
To work around this issue, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
- In the Currently installed programs list, click the earlier version of Office, and then click Remove.
- Follow the prompts to remove the earlier version of Office.
- Repair the 2007 Office program installation. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
- In the Currently installed programs list, click the installed version of the 2007 Office program, and then click Change.
- Click Repair, and then click Continue.
If an earlier version of an Office program is not removed when the 2007 Office program is installed, two versions of Microsoft Outlook may remain installed. If this occurs, Outlook may be unstable and may cause unpredictable results.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
