Access 2007 may close unexpectedly when you try to change the Control Source property for a control that is on a report or on a form in Layout view

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Office Access 2007, when you try to change the Control Source property for a control on a report or on a form, Access 2007 may close unexpectedly. Additionally, you receive one of the following error messages:
  • Error message 1
    Microsoft Office Access has stopped working.
  • Error message 2
    Microsoft Office Access has encountered a problem and needs to close.
    We are sorry for the inconvenience.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The report or the form is in Layout view.
  • The report or the form contains a subreport or a subform.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, change the Control Source property for a control when the report or the form is in Design view.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
