How to upgrade from Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Beta 2 to the original release version of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

On This Page

INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to upgrade from Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Beta 2 to the original release version of Microsoft Office Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

MORE INFORMATION

The original release version of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 supports the following upgrade path:
  1. From Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Beta 2 to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Beta 2 Technical Refresh
  2. From Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Beta 2 Technical Refresh to the original release version of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0
You cannot upgrade directly from Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Beta 2 to the original release version of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

How to view the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 version information

The following list contains the build information for each version of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0:
  • Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Beta 2 - 12.0.0.4017
  • Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Beta 2 Technical Refresh (TR) - 12.0.0.4407
  • Original release version of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 - 12.0.0.4518
Note If the version information is earlier than 4017, the site is running an earlier build of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. You cannot upgrade releases that are earlier than Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Beta 2 to the release version of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

To determine the version of Windows SharePoint Services that is installed, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration.
  2. On the Central Administration page, click Site Actions, and then click Site Settings.
  3. On the Site Settings page, the version information is displayed next to Version.
Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Beta 2 Technical Refresh should be used only temporarily to make it easier to upgrade to the original release version of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

Note If you installed Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, you must use the SharePoint Server 2007 upgrade packages and installation instructions. Do not try to install a beta version of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on a SharePoint Server 2007 server.
