SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You have a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. Additionally, this computer is running a Windows-based application that uses Microsoft Internet Extensions for Win32 (Wininet.dll). Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 is an example of this application. On this computer, you try to log on to a Web site that uses Windows Live ID. In this scenario, the authentication of the user name and of the password may fail, or the process that is hosting the Wininet.dll file may stop responding.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the latest cumulative security update for Internet Explorer. For more information about how to obtain the latest cumulative security update for Internet Explorer, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Note This hotfix is included in cumulative security update 928090 and in later cumulative security updates for Internet Explorer. Cumulative security update 928090 is described in security bulletin MS07-016.

Prerequisites

You must install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) before you apply this hotfix.

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

this also applies to ie7 too. but unable to get patch
