SharePoint Server 2007 disk-based caching for "binary large objects" stops responding after an IIS application pool is recycled

SYMPTOMS

When a Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) application pool is recycled, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 disk-based caching for binary large objects (BLOBs) may stop responding. Additionally, you may notice that performance is affected on the computer that is running SharePoint Server 2007.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, you must restart IIS on the computer that is running SharePoint Server 2007. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
  2. In Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager, right-click the name of the server that is running IIS, point to All Tasks, and then click Restart IIS.
  3. In the Stop/Start/Restart dialog box, click OK.

MORE INFORMATION

SharePoint Server 2007 uses disk-based caching. Disk-based caching helps retrieve binary large object resources, such as image files, from the file system to help improve performance.
