How to use the Alert ID feature in the 2007 Office programs when you search for a warning or an error message in the Microsoft Knowledge Base

INTRODUCTION

The 2007 Microsoft Office programs include a new feature named Alert ID. This feature can help you find the content that you want when you search the Microsoft Knowledge Base. This article describes how to use the new Alert ID feature.

MORE INFORMATION

When you search the Microsoft Knowledge Base for a warning or for an error message that you receive in a 2007 Office program, you may find several articles that contain similar text. Additionally, you may be looking for content that exists only in a different language.

To help you find the prescriptive content for the warning or for the error message that you are experiencing, a new feature was added to the 2007 Office programs. This new feature adds a unique alert number, or Alert ID, to the warning or message dialog box.

To display the Alert ID when the warning dialog box or the error message dialog box is on the screen, press CTRL+SHIFT+I. The Alert ID is displayed in the lower-right corner of the dialog box. Add this unique number to the list of search words that you use. This helps narrow your search for the corresponding Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

Note This new feature is not enabled for warnings or for error messages that you may receive during the setup process for the 2007 Office programs.
