How to manage the Internet Explorer 7 Phishing Filter in your enterprise

SUMMARY

This article describes how to configure the Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Phishing Filter to work with your corporate network Group Policies and trusted site lists.

MORE INFORMATION

Phishing Filter and Group Policy

In Windows Internet Explorer 7, the Phishing Filter feature is fully controllable as part of the Group Policy settings by using Internet Explorer 7 security zone settings. You can set the Phishing Filter to not check the sites in the trusted zone.

By default, Phishing Filter in Internet Explorer 7 does check the sites in the trusted zone. However, you can turn off checking for this zone. You can then add your own custom list of sites to the trusted zone for your enterprise and include sites that the company has decided are "safe" or "trusted."

The sites in the trusted zone are trusted locally by the Phishing Filter and are never checked automatically.

Phishing Filter and trusted sites

As an enterprise administrator or as an individual user, you can add your own list of trusted sites for the company or for yourself and then turn off the Phishing Filter for the Trusted sites zone. To add trusted sites and turn off Phishing Filter for these sites, follow these steps:
  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Click the Trusted sites icon, and then click Sites.
  5. In the Add this website to the zone box, enter the Web site URL, and then click Add.
  6. Close the box.
  7. On the Security tab, click Custom level, and then select Disable under Use Phishing Filter. You may have to scroll through several items.
  8. Click OK.

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.

Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
