Description of the network configurations that are supported on different editions of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0

INTRODUCTION

This article describes the network configurations that are supported on different editions of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0. We recommend that you use the edition of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 that supports the type of network configuration that you use.

MORE INFORMATION

The following editions of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 are available:
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Professional Edition (PE)
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Small Business Edition (SBE)
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Service Provider Edition (SPE)
You can use Microsoft Dynamics CRM PE and Microsoft Dynamics CRM SBE on intranet sites. You can useMicrosoft Dynamics CRM SPE on Internet sites. However, different editions of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 support different types of network configurations.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 PE supports the following network configurations:
  • A local area network (LAN).
  • You cannot use Microsoft Dynamics CRM PE to access Microsoft Dynamics CRM on the Internet. If a user is not connected to the LAN, the user must connect to the network by using a virtual private network (VPN) connection.
Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 SBE supports the following network configurations:
  • A LAN.
  • You cannot use Microsoft Dynamics CRM SBE to access Microsoft Dynamics CRM on the Internet. If a user is not connected to the LAN, the user must connect to the network by using a VPN connection.
Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 SPE supports the following network configurations:
  • A LAN.
  • You can use a VPN connection to access Microsoft Dynamics CRM on the Internet.
  • You can use Microsoft Dynamics CRM SPE together with a configuration in which you access Microsoft Dynamics CRM on the Internet without using a VPN connection.
Notes
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 SPE is designed for a user who wants to access Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 from Internet sites. For more information, visit the following Microsoft Dynamics Web site:
    https://members.microsoft.com/serviceproviders/webhosting/hostedmessaging/default.mspx (https://members.microsoft.com/serviceproviders/webhosting/hostedmessaging/default.mspx)
  • The Chinese version and the Japanese version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 SPE are unavailable. Therefore, if you use the Chinese version or the Japanese version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0, you have to use Microsoft Dynamics CRM PE or Microsoft Dynamics CRM SBE.
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 PE and Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 SBE use Kerberos authentication. If the user is not connected to the LAN, Kerberos authentication does not work unless you use a VPN connection to access Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 SPE uses an ASP.NET forms-based authentication scheme. When you use an ASP.NET forms-based authentication scheme, you can access Microsoft Dynamics CRM on Internet sites.

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.

Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
