CAUSE

This problem occurs if the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is corrupted or if the .NET Framework 2.0 is not completely installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use the appropriate method.

Method 1: Microsoft Windows XP

Reinstall the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  2. In the Currently installed programs list, click Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, and then click Change/Remove.
  3. Follow the appropriate step.

Note The .Net Framework 2.0 is installed when you install Office Accounting Professional or Office Accounting Express.
    • If the .NET Framework 2.0 is corrupted, click Remove, and then follow the instructions to remove the .NET Framework 2.0 and to complete the installation of the .NET Framework 2.0.
    • If the .NET Framework 2.0 is not completely installed, click Install, and then follow the instructions to complete the installation of the .NET Framework 2.0.
  4. Close the "Add or Remove Programs" window.
  5. Try to install Accounting Professional or Accounting Express.

Method 2: Windows Vista

Repair the Microsoft .NET Framework. To do this, follow these steps.
Note The .NET Framework 2.0 is a core part of the Windows Vista operating system. You cannot uninstall the .NET Framework 2.0 in Windows Vista.
  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
  2. Click Continue to open a command prompt.
  3. At the command prompt, type the following command to run the System File Checker (Sfc.exe) tool, and then press ENTER:
    sfc /scannow
Note The following message is displayed:
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
When the scan is complete, the System File Checker tool indicates whether integrity violations were found. If integrity violations are found, the System File Checker tool lets you fix the integrity violations.

MORE INFORMATION

System File Checker (Sfc.exe) lets an administrator scan all protected files to verify the file versions. If System File Checker finds that a protected file has been overwritten, the program retrieves the correct version of the file from the Windows installation source files or from the following cache folder:
%Systemroot%\System32\Dllcache
System File Checker then replaces the incorrect file. System File Checker also checks and repopulates the cache folder.

This did not work for me... Perhaps it is an antivirus software interfering with the installation... I'll try disabling my antivirus program next...
