Error message when you remove and then reinstall Age of Mythology: The Titans: "Previous version of Titans exists"

SYMPTOMS

When you remove and then reinstall Microsoft Age of Mythology: The Titans, you may receive the following error message:
Previous version of Titans exists and needs to be uninstalled.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because all the Age of Mythology: The Titans files were not removed when you tried to remove the game.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. Remove Microsoft Age of Mythology.
  3. Close Add or Remove Programs.
  4. Locate the following folder, right-click the folder, and then click Delete:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Mythology
  5. Reinstall Age of Mythology. In the Setup program, click Change, and then specify the following location where you want to install Age of Mythology: The Titans:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\AoM
  6. Continue with the installation of Age of Mythology.
  7. After Age of Mythology is installed, install Age of Mythology: The Titans.
