Article ID: 933265 - Last Review: November 20, 2007 - Revision: 1.4 FIX: You may receive error 1203 when you run an INSERT statement against a table that has an identity column in SQL Server 2005Bug: #50000793 (SQL Hotfix) Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 fix release. This article describes the following about this hotfix release: - The issues that are fixed by the hotfix package
- The prerequisites for installing the hotfix package
- Whether you must restart the computer after you install the hotfix package
- Whether the hotfix package is replaced by any other hotfix package
- Whether you must make any registry changes
- The files that are contained in the hotfix package
Consider the following scenario. You have a computer that has more than one microprocessor. You run an INSERT statement against a table that has an identity column. The INSERT statement is running in parallel. In this scenario, you may receive the following error message: Error 1203 Process ID %d attempted to unlock a resource it does not own: %.*ls. Retry the transaction, because this error may be caused by a timing condition. If the problem persists, contact the database administrator. Cumulative update information
To resolve this problem, obtain cumulative update package 2 for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (build 3175).

Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix. If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix. Note If additional issues occur or if any troubleshooting is required, you might have to create a separate service request. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for this specific hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Customer Service and Support telephone numbers or to create a separate service request, visit the following Microsoft Web site: Note The "Hotfix download available" form displays the languages for which the hotfix is available. If you do not see your language, it is because a hotfix is not available for that language. PrerequisitesTo apply this hotfix, you must have SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed on the computer.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
