The remaining work value for a resource is incorrect when you assign the resource to multiple projects in Project 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you assign a resource to multiple projects in Microsoft Office Project, the remaining work value for the resource is incorrect. This problem usually occurs in the Resource Usage view.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the remaining work value for the unopened projects is equal to the total work value for all the resources for the unopened projects. However, the remaining work value will change if one of the unopened projects to which you assign the resources is opened.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, do one of the following:
  • Open the unopened projects to update the data in the plan.
  • Create a master project. Then, expand the master project.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.
