You cannot change the datasheet of a chart in PowerPoint 2004 for Mac

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. In a Microsoft PowerPoint 2004 for Mac presentation, you double-click a chart object. The chart opens in Microsoft Graph for Mac. You cannot change the datasheet for the chart.

This issue also occurs if you create a new chart in a Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2004 presentation.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when the plist file for Graph becomes damaged or corrupted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue on a PowerPC-based Macintosh computer, follow these steps:
  1. Close PowerPoint 2004 for Mac and any other Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac program that is open.
  2. From the desktop, click Go, and then click Home.
  3. Open the Library folder, and then open the Preferences folder.
  4. Locate and then open the Microsoft folder.
  5. Drag the com.microsoft.Graph.prefs.plist file to the Trash icon on the Dock.
  6. Right-click Trash, and then click Empty Trash.
  7. Start PowerPoint 2004 for Mac, and then open the presentation that contains the chart that you want to change.
You should now be able to change the datasheet on the chart.

MORE INFORMATION

This issue also occurs on an Intel-based Macintosh computer. This issue will be addressed in a future Mac OS X version for Intel-based Macintosh computers.
