After a Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 agent tries to fail over to the secondary MOM 2005 server, the following event is logged in the Application log:

The agent could not connect to the MOM Server FQDN.MOM.Server.
The error reported is 'No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.'. Verify the management group name is correct, the MOM Server is running, that it is listening on port 1270, and that any firewalls between this agent and the MOM server are configured to pass TCP and UDP traffic on port 1270.
Additionally, you receive the following error message in the agent log file:
Wrn:Socket has been closed by remote party. Result code = 10054

Installation instructions
To apply this hotfix, follow these steps:
- Copy the MOM2005-SP1-KB934441-X86-IA64-ENU.msi file to a local folder or to a shared folder on the network. If you use a shared folder, make sure that the computers that require this hotfix can access the folder.
- Log on to one of the computers that require this hotfix by using an account that has administrative credentials.
- Run the MOM2005-SP1-KB934441-X86-IA64-ENU.MSI file. (You can run the file at a command prompt, or you can run the file by using Windows Explorer.)
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 on each computer that requires this hotfix.
To apply this hotfix in your MOM environment, manually apply this hotfix to each MOM 2005 server in your MOM management groups. Then, apply this hotfix to each MOM 2005 agent by using one of the following methods, depending on the agent.
Agents whose control level is set to Full
Use the MOM 2005 Administrator console to apply this hotfix. A list of the MOM 2005 agents that can be automatically updated appears in the Microsoft Operations Manager
ServerName \Administration\Computers\Pending Actions folder.
Agents whose control level is set to None
Manually apply this hotfix. A list of these agents appears in the Microsoft Operations Manager
ServerName \Administration\Computers\Agent-managed Computers folder.
Agents whose control level is set to Full when the agents were manually installed after this hotfix was applied to the server
Manually apply the hotfix. Or, follow these steps to use the MOM 2005 server to apply the hotfix:
- Use the Pending Actions folder in the MOM 2005 Administrator console to make sure that the manual installation of the MOM 2005 agents is approved.
- Click the "Agent-managed Computers" folder in the MOM 2005 Administrator console, right-click the MOM 2005 agent in the details pane, and then click Update Agent Settings.
