You receive an error message when you try to deploy an agent update to a managed computer in Microsoft Operations Manager 2005

SYMPTOMS

When you try to deploy (push) an agent update to a managed computer in Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005, you receive the following error message:
The MOM Server failed to apply software updates to computer 'computer name'

Error Code: -2147024662
Error Description: More data is available.
Microsoft Installer Error Description: No Description Available
You experience this problem when you try to apply a MOM agent update to a computer that has previously been updated.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the \MOM 2005 installation folder\Platform\Patches folder contains two or more .msp update files.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

You must have MOM 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed to apply this hotfix.

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, re-deploy the complete MOM agent to each managed computer.
