You cannot create a list that is based on a list template that has the E-Mail Notification option enabled in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or in SharePoint Server 2007
You create a Project Tasks list, a Tasks list, or an Issue Tracking list in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. Additionally, you click
Yes to enable the
E-Mail Notification option next to
Send e-mail when ownership is assigned. Then, you click
Save list as template on the List Settings page. When you try to create a new list that is based on the new template, you receive the following error message:
Cannot complete this action.
Please try again.
This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
- You create a Project Tasks list, a Tasks list, or an Issue Tracking list that has the E-Mail Notification option enabled.
- You save the list as a template.
To resolve this issue, turn off the
E-Mail Notification option before you save the list as a template.
Steps to reproduce the behavior
- Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration.
- Click View all site content.
- Click Create.
- Under Tracking, click Project Tasks.
- On the New page, enable the E-Mail Notification option, and then click Create.
- Visit the new Project Tasks list page, click Settings, and then click List Settings.
- Click Save the list as a template.
- Click Home, and then click View all site content.
- Click Create, and then try to create a new list that is based on the template that you created earlier.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0
- Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
