On This Page

INTRODUCTION

The article describes some common license keys issues that may occur in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0. It also describes issues that may occur when you upgrade Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 or when you migrate Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0.

MORE INFORMATION

The option to upgrade licenses is unavailable in License Manager

This issue may occur if you previously installed Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 by using an MSDN license key. The MSDN license key is provided for the following environments only:
  • Design environments
  • Development environments
  • Test environments
  • Demonstration environments
The MSDN license keys are not to be used in production environments. This is documented in the MSDN Software License Terms.

If you want to upgrade the Microsoft Dynamics CRM licenses when you are using the MSDN license key, you must uninstall Microsoft Dynamics CRM, and then reinstall Microsoft Dynamics CRM by using the Install to Existing Databases option. During the reinstallation process, type the upgraded Microsoft Dynamics CRM license keys,

Error message when you add a new license: "A server license has already been added"

To run Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0, you must have one server license. Additionally, you must have the appropriate number of user licenses for your active users. If you add another server license to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 installation, you may receive this error message. If you want to increase the number of users who can access Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 after you install Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0, you can add only new Client Access Licenses (CAL).

Error message when you redeploy Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0: "You cannot mix Small Business Edition and Professional Edition license keys in one deployment"

You may receive this error message if the following conditions are true:
  • You originally installed Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 by using a Small Business Edition (SBE) license key.
  • You redeploy Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 by using a Professional Edition (PRO) license key.
Alternatively, you may receive this error message if the following conditions are true:
  • You originally installed Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 by using a PRO license key.
  • You redeploy Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 by using an SBE license key.
To upgrade the SBE license key to a PRO license key, right-click the SBE license key in License Manager, and then click Upgrade License. After you do this, you can redeploy Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0.

Two server licenses are in License Manager

After you redeploy Microsoft Dynamics CRM against an existing database, you may see two server licenses in License Manager. You may also see two server licenses after you install Microsoft Dynamics CRM against an existing database. When you right-click License Manager, and then you click License Summary, two server licenses appear. An aggregate of the total user licenses also appears. This does not affect the functioning of the system.
