FIX: After you install Internet Explorer 7, the Inetinfo.exe process may stop responding on a computer that is running both Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6.0

SYMPTOMS

After you install Windows Internet Explorer 7, the Inetinfo.exe process may stop responding (hang) on a computer that is running both Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0.

When this problem occurs, you may receive an error message in the System log in Event Viewer. The error message resembles the following:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7031
Description:
The IIS Admin Service service terminated unexpectedly.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The computer is running Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 or with Service Pack 2.
  • The Phishing Filter in Internet Explorer 7 is enabled.
  • The Mshtml.dll file is loaded in a service process.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply the latest cumulative security update for Internet Explorer. To obtain the latest update, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
