Error message when you try to install Microsoft Office Accounting Express: "The following component could not be installed. Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity components"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Office Accounting Express, you receive the following error message:
The following Component could not be installed. Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if one of the following conditions is true:
  • The user account that you are using does not have administrator rights. See Resolution 1.
  • The user profile that you are using to install Accounting Express does not have administrator rights. See Resolution 2.
  • Another version of Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components is already installed. See Resolution 3.

RESOLUTION

Resolution 1

To resolve this problem, verify that the user account that you are using belongs to the Administrator group. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click User Accounts.
  2. In the User Name column, locate the user account that you are using.
  3. Verify that Administrator appears in the Group column for this account.

Resolution 2

To resolve this problem, verify that the user profile that you are using has administrator rights. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click User Accounts.
  2. On the Users tab, click Add.
  3. In the User name box, enter a user name.
  4. In the Domain box, enter a domain, and then click Next.
  5. Verify that Administrators appears in the Other list.
  6. Click Finish.

Resolution 3

To resolve this problem, remove the existing version of Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, select the Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components check box.
  3. Click Remove.
