MOM 2005 does not install the agent files to the path that you specify when you use the Install/Uninstall Agents Wizard

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Install/Uninstall Agents Wizard to install an agent, MOM does not install the agent files to the path that you specify. Instead, MOM installs the agent files in the "%programfiles%\Microsoft Operations Manager 2005" folder.

Note You can specify the path by using the list on the Agent installation Directory page of the wizard.

You experience this behavior even if you modify the default agent installation location. To view this location, follow these steps:
  1. Start the MOM Administrator console.
  2. Expand Administration, right-click Global Settings, and then click Management Server Properties.
  3. Click the Agent Install tab.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the agent installation task runs on a computer that is in the Pending Actions node. To view the computers that are listed in the Pending Actions node, follow these steps:
  1. Start the MOM Administrator console.
  2. Expand Administration, expand Computers, and then click Pending Actions.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods to install the agent:
  • Do not specify a folder when you run the Install/Uninstall Agents Wizard.
  • Start the Install/Uninstall Agents Wizard from the All Computers node. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Start the MOM Administrator console.
    2. Expand Administration, and then expand Computers.
    3. Right-click All Computers, and then click Install/Uninstall Agents Wizard.
  • Start the Install/Uninstall Agents Wizard from the Unmanaged Computers node. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Start the MOM Administrator console.
    2. Expand Administration, expand Computers, and then click Unmanaged Computers.
    3. In the details pane, right-click the computer on which you want to install the agent, and then click Install Agent.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
