When the Delete Aged System Center Reporting Data task is enabled on a site server that is running Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 with Service Pack 2 (SP2), the software inventory process may eventually stop responding. When this problem occurs, an error that resembles the following is logged to the Smsdbmon.log file on the site server:
Microsoft SQL Server reported SQL message 8115, severity16: [22003][8115][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Arithmetic overflow error converting IDENTITY to data type int. : DWTr_SoftwareInventory_Del
This problem occurs when the ID column table in SMS site database has reached the maximum value, and the
DWTr_SoftwareInventory_Del stored procedure tries to increment the value. Because the value can no longer increment, data is not available for deletion. Therefore, the size of the SMS site database increases.
The maximum value is
2,147,483,647.
After you apply this hotfix, the
DWTr_SoftwareInventory_Del stored procedure resets the ID column when its value reaches 2,000,000,000.
