You may experience unexpected behavior in the date field of the work item when you use a Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server work item in Project 2007

INTRODUCTION

You can use a Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server work item in Microsoft Office Project 2007. However, the supported date range is different for Visual Studio Team Foundation Server than it is for Project 2007. Therefore, you may experience unexpected behavior in the date field of the work item. You may experience this behavior when you click Refresh or when you click Publish in Project 2007.

MORE INFORMATION

Project 2007 has the following limits on date fields:
  • The earliest date that is supported for calculations is January 1, 1984.
  • The latest date that is supported for calculations is December 31, 2049.
Because Team Foundation Server uses the Microsoft .NET Framework System.DateTime structure, a broader range of date values is supported. Team Foundation Server has the following limits on date fields:
  • The earliest date that is supported is 12:00:00 AM January 1, 0001 Anno Domini (A.D.) (Common Era [C.E.]).
  • The latest date that is supported is 11:59:59 PM December 31, 9999 A.D. (C.E.).
If you try to map a Team Foundation Server date value to Project 2007, you may experience the following issues:
  • When you import the Team Foundation Server work item to Project 2007, the unsupported date value appears as NA in Project 2007.
  • If you change a date in the work item by using Team Foundation Server while the work item is open in Project 2007, and then you click Refresh in Project 2007, the date does not change in Project 2007.
  • If you change a date in the work item by using Team Foundation Server while the work item is open in Project 2007, and then you click Publish in Project 2007, the original date overwrites the new date in Team Foundation Server.
These issues occur when the date that appears in the work item in Team Foundation Server is outside the date range that Project 2007 supports.

To prevent these issues, use only date values that Project 2007 supports in Team Foundation Server work items that you will use in Project 2007.
