Error message when you run BizTalk Server on a cluster: "The Messaging Engine failed to add a receive location <QueueName>"
Consider the following scenario. You run Microsoft BizTalk Server on a cluster. Additionally, you use a clustered Microsoft Message Queuing resource. In this scenario, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
The Messaging Engine failed to add a receive location QueueName with URL
"FORMATNAME:DIRECT=OS:ComputerName\PRIVATE$\QueueName" to the adapter "MSMQ".
Reason: "The required Microsoft Message Queuing service has not been started."
This issue occurs if the Message Queuing service does not start automatically. By default, the startup type setting for the local instance of the Message Queuing service is set to
Manual when a clustered instance of Message Queuing is created.
To work around this issue, change the startup type setting for the Message Queuing service from
Manual to
Automatic. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
- In the Services dialog box, locate Message Queuing.
- Right-click Message Queuing, and then click Properties.
- In the Startup type box, click Automatic, and then click OK.
- Start the Message Queuing service.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
