SMS 2003 SUS Feature Pack incorrectly reports that security update 923980 is not installed after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2

SYMPTOMS

After you install Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) on a client computer, Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Software Update Services (SUS) Feature Pack incorrectly reports that security update 923980 is not installed.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the detection logic in SUS Feature Pack incorrectly reports that security update 923980 is not installed if the following conditions are true:
  • You install security update 923980 on a computer that is running Windows XP with Service Pack 1 (SP1).
  • You upgrade the computer to Windows XP with SP2.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, run the SMS 2003 Inventory Tool for Microsoft Updates (ITMU) to verify that security update 923980 is installed. For more information about ITMU, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
