Error message when you try to use the Antigen 9.0 for Exchange client program to connect to a server: "Access denied"

SYMPTOMS

You install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2). Then, you try to use the Microsoft Antigen 9.0 for Exchange client program to connect to a server. When you do this, you receive an "access denied" error message.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you install Windows Server 2003 SP2 on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer that is not running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1. The anonymous logon user account is removed from the Access Permissions area in the COM Security dialog box.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use Component Services to re-add the anonymous logon user account to the Access Permissions area in the COM Security dialog box. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type dcomcnfg, and then click OK.
  2. Under Console Root, expand Component Services, and then expand Computers.
  3. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  4. On the COM Security tab, click Edit Limits in the Access Permissions area.
  5. Click Add.
  6. In the Enter the object names to select box, type Anonymous Logon, and then click OK.
  7. In the Group or user names box, click Anonymous Logon.
  8. In the Permission for Anonymous Logon box, click to select the Local Access Allow check box, click to select the Remote Access Allow check box, and then click OK.
