Error message when you try to search for content in a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 site: "The site <URLOfSite> could not be found in the Web application"
When you try to search for content in a Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 site, you receive the following error message:
The site URLOfSite could not be found in the Web application SPWebApplication
Name=Intranets Parent=SPWebService
This issue occurs if a site collection does not exist at the root of the Web application. For example, this issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
- You define a managed path for the Web application. To do this, you add an "explicit inclusion" included path.
- You create a site collection at the URL that you specified in the included path. For example, you create a site collection at the following URL:
http://ServerName/Site1
- You do not create a site collection at the root of the Web application.
To resolve this issue, create a site collection at the root of the Web application.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
