Error message when you try to upgrade from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0: "Violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint 'AllUserData_Url'"
When you try to upgrade from Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 to Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, you receive the following error message:
Violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint 'AllUserData_Url'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.AllUserData'.
This issue occurs when the Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 site content includes discussion boards that have similar names. For example, this issue occurs when the names of the discussion boards are
Discussion Board1,
Discussion Board2, and
Discussion Board3. In this case, the upgrade process cannot determine the unique name of each discussion board because the names of the discussion boards are similar.
To resolve this issue, use Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007 or Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 to rename the discussion boards before you try to upgrade from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0. To do this, follow these steps, as appropriate for your situation.
SharePoint Designer 2007
- In SharePoint Designer 2007, click File, and then click Open Site.
- In the Open Site dialog box, click the Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Web site that includes the discussion boards that have similar names.
- In the details pane, double-click Lists.
- Right-click the discussion board that you want to rename, click Rename, and then type a descriptive name for the discussion board, such as Technical Discussion or Planning Discussion.
- Rename all the discussion boards that have similar names, and then try to upgrade from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0.
FrontPage 2003
- In FrontPage 2003, click File, and then click Open Site.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
