Systems Management Server 2003 Site Backup task does not run on the day that the daylight saving time (DST) change occurs
In Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003, the SMS Site Backup task does not run if the following conditions are true:
- The time window for SMS Site Backup task to run is set to one hour.
- The site server is in a time zone in which the See Comment (DST) option is enabled on the day that the daylight saving time (DST) change occurs.
Note SMS 2003 calculates the next run time of the SMS Site Backup task as an offset from the previous run time.
This problem occurs because the DST time zone change occurs on the site server when the SMS Executive service is running.
On the day that DST changes, the time difference is only 23 hours between the previous execution time and the next execution time. However, SMS 2003 is waiting for a time difference of 24 hours. After waiting for 24 hours, the SMS Site Backup task is outside the specified execution window, and the task is not run.
Note The task will run as expected in the specified execution window.
To work around this problem, set the time window for the Site Backup task to run to more than one hour. Then, the Site Backup task will run. However, the Site Backup task will run an hour later than expected on the day that the DST change occurs.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
