SYMPTOMS

When Microsoft Antigen 9.0 for Exchange or Microsoft Antigen 9.0 for SMTP Gateways is installed on a server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server, the following entry may be logged in the Application log:

Event ID : 100
Category : Unknown
Source :
Type : Error
Date : <DATE>
Time: <TIME>
Machine : <Computer_Name>
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 100 ) in Source ( ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: ConvertLegacyExchangeDNToSMTPAddress - GetFirstRow failed. Error code: 8007203E"

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • You use mail-enabled public folders.
  • The name of a public folder contains a special character. For example, the name of a public folder contains parenthesis as in the following example:
    (foldername)

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
