The list of search providers includes two entries for Live Search after you use an .adm file to configure Live Search as one of the search providers in Internet Explorer 7

SYMPTOMS

After you use an administrative template file (.adm file) to configure Live Search as one of the search providers in Windows Internet Explorer 7, the list of search providers includes two entries for Live Search.

Note This problem occurs even after you delete the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Internet Explorer sets the following registry entries every time that it is started:

Subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes
Collapse this tableExpand this table
EntryTypeValue
DefaultScopeString{0633EE93-D776-472f-A0FF-E1416B8B2E3A}

Collapse this tableExpand this table
EntryTypeValue
@StringLive Search
DisplayNameString@ieframe.dll,-12512
URLStringhttp://search.live.com/results.aspx?q={searchTerms}&src={referrer:source?}

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, do not use an ADM template to configure Live Search. By default, Internet Explorer 7 includes an entry for Live Search in the list of search providers.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
