How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
You create your initial replica, you run a synchronization, or you run a consistency check in Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 (DPM). However, you receive the following error message:
Error code 30194 "DPM cannot protect DatasourceName; on server ServerName; because case-sensitive support is not enabled on the DPM server."
This problem occurs because case sensitivity may be enabled on the protected server. However, case sensitivity may not be enabled on the computer that is running DPM. Case sensitivity is the ability to access files that have the same name if the files differ only in case. For example, if case sensitivity is enabled, you can save the following files in the same directory:
By default, case sensitivity is not enabled in Windows operating systems. However, Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX 3.5 and other applications may have case sensitivity enabled.
Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
To resolve this problem, enable case sensitivity on the computer that is running DPM. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate the following registry subkey, and then click it:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Kernel
- In the details pane, double-click obcaseinsensitive.
- Change the value of this registry entry to "0." The following values are available for this registry entry:
- 0 = file system is case-sensitive
- 1 = file system is case-insensitive
- Restart the computer.
