Error message when you try to attach an.sbd data file to an instance of Microsoft SQL Server in Accounting Professional or in Accounting Express: "Access is denied"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to attach an .sbd data file to an instance of Microsoft SQL Server in Microsoft Office Accounting Professional or in Microsoft Office Accounting Express, you may receive the following error message:
Access is Denied.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the user name that you are using does not have ownership or full control of the following database files:
  • The .sbd data file
  • The .sbl data files

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, give the user name that you are using ownership and full control of the database files. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Locate the C:\ProgramFiles\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\DATA folder.

Note If there are other SQL Server instances on the computer, you can use a different folder. For example, you can use the MSSQL.2 folder or the MSSQL.3 folder.
  2. Locate the company database file and the log file.

    Note
    • The company database file resembles the following file:
      Company_name.sbd
    • The log file resembles the following file:
      Company_name.sbl
  3. Right-click Company_name.sbd, and then click Properties.
  4. On the Security tab, click Advanced.
  5. On the Owner tab, select the user name that you want to make the owner, click Apply, and then click OK.
  6. Under Permissions, click to select the Full Control check box in the Allow column, and then click OK.
  7. Repeat step 4 through step 8 for the Company_name.sbl file.
  8. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Office, point to Microsoft Office Accounting <year> Tools, and then click Data Tools.
  9. On the Advanced Tools tab, click Attach to attach the data file.
