If you configure one or more of the following Group Policy settings, the policy may not affect zone detection in Internet Explorer, even though
Internet Options shows the followings settings:
- Turn on automatic detection of the intranet
- Intranet Sites: Include all network paths (UNCs)
- Intranet Sites: Include all sites that bypass the proxy server
- Intranet Sites: Include all local (intranet) sites not listed in other zones
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
- You are running Windows Internet
Explorer 7 on a Windows-based computer.
- In a workgroup environment, you use Group Policy settings to disable the Turn on automatic detection of the intranet setting and to enable the Intranet Sites: Include all local (intranet) sites not listed in other zones setting.
- You are using Internet Explorer 7 to access a local intranet site.

To use Group Policy to set the intranet
zone values that are described in the "Symptoms" section, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type gpedit.msc in the Open box, and then click OK.
- Expand Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, expand Windows Components, expand Internet Explorer, and then expand Internet Control Panel.
- Click Security Page, right-click Intranet Sites: Include all local (intranet) sites not listed in other zones, and then click Properties.
- Click Enabled, and then click OK.
- Right-click Turn on automatic detection of the intranet, and then click Properties.
- Click Disabled, and then click OK.
- Exit the Group Policy Object Editor
To verify the settings, follow these steps:
- On the Internet Explorer Tools menu, click Internet Options.
- On the Security tab, click Local intranet, and then click Sites.
