How to install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008

INTRODUCTION

This article describes Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 support on computers that are running Windows Server 2008. This article also describes how to install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008.

MORE INFORMATION

In Windows Server 2008 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) and in later versions of Windows Server 2008, Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 is no longer included as a Server role. Additionally, you cannot install the release version of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on a Windows Server 2008-based computer.

However, you can install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on a Windows Server 2008-based computer by using Windows SharePoint Services Service Pack 1 (SP1).
