File transfer operations are unsuccessful among instant messaging clients after you install Antigen 8.0 for IM

SYMPTOMS

After you install Sybari Antigen 8.0 for IM, you experience the following symptoms:
  • Instant messaging works among instant messaging clients as expected. However, file transfer operations among instant messaging clients is unsuccessful.
  • The following information is logged in the %ProgramFiles%\Sybari Software\Antigen for Exchange\ProgramLog.txt file:
ERROR: Unable to download, error is 'A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond', retrying ..
You experience this issue in the following scenario:
  • Antigen 8.0 for IM is installed in a Microsoft Office Live Communications Server environment.
  • Antigen 8.0 for IM is installed in a network that is separate from Live Communications Server client computers.
  • General Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) traffic is routed through a server that is running the Live Communications Server Access Proxy role.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Antigen 8.0 for IM does not support the Live Communications Server Access Proxy role to route file transfers. Instead, Antigen 8.0 requires a direct connection between the client and the server to route file transfers.

In this scenario, if a client and the server cannot communicate directly by using standard network protocols, the file transfer operation fails (times out). This issue applies to any network segregation. This includes virtual LANs (VLANs).

APPLIES TO
  • Sybari Antigen 8.0 for IM
