SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You use the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Operating System Deployment (OSD) Feature Pack to deploy Windows Vista to a computer from an image. After Windows Vista is successfully deployed, you create a subfolder in a shared folder on the network from the Windows Vista-based computer. Then, you try to rename this subfolder.

In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
The SharedFolderName folder does not exist. The file may have been moved or deleted.
Do you want to create it?
This error message incorrectly states that the shared folder does not exist.

Additionally, if you save a file to the shared folder on the network, you may receive the following error message:
There has been a network or file permission error. The network connection may be lost.

CAUSE

The client-side cache database that the Offline Files feature uses was corrupted when Windows Vista was deployed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply this hotfix on the SMS site servers before you deploy Windows Vista to the client computers.
