Error message when you try to open a company file in Accounting Professional or in Accounting Express: "This shortcut points to a company that has been moved during upgrade or integration"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a company file in Microsoft Office Accounting Professional or in Microsoft Office Accounting Express, you may receive the following error message:
This shortcut points to a company that has been moved during upgrade or integration. Please use the shortcut that was created when the company was moved or create a new shortcut from the Data Tools.
This problem occurs after you use the Integrate with Business Contact Manager command on the Company menu in Accounting Professional or in Accounting Express. This problem occurs if you use the Integrate with Business Contact Manager command to integrate the contacts in Microsoft Office Outlook and the contacts in the databases for Accounting Professional or for Accounting Express.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the company file (.sbc) that you tried to open is an old company file. The old company file was created before you integrated the contacts. After you integrate the contacts by using the Integrate with Business Contact Manager command, a new company file is created. However, the old company file still exists.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, delete the old company file. Then, open the new company file. If you cannot determine the company file that you should delete and the company file that you should open, delete all the company files. Next, create a new company file. Then, open the new company file. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Delete all the company files. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Locate the Companies folder. By default, the Companies folder is located in the following path in Windows XP:
      C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\Small Business Accounting
By default, the Companies folder is located in the following path in Windows Vista:
      C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Small Business Accounting
Note The UserName placeholder is a placeholder for the actual user name.
    2. Delete all the .sbc files in the Companies folder.
  2. Create a new company file. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Office, point to Microsoft Office Accounting <year> Tools, and then click Data Tools.
    2. In the Microsoft Office Accounting Data Utilities dialog box, click Rebuild.
    3. In the Rebuild Company File dialog box, select the appropriate company database. Make sure that the company database that you select has one of the following version numbers:
      • 2.0.7503.0
      • 2.0.7024.0
    4. Click Rebuild.
    5. In the Select Company File dialog box, type the company file name in the File name field, and then click Save.
  3. Open the company file that you created. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Start Accounting Professional or Accounting Express.
    2. On the File menu, click Open Company. Then, in the Select Company File dialog box, select the company file that you created in step 2.
