Consider the following scenario. You install Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based computer. The Windows 2000 Server-based computer has multiple processors. The number of CPU cores is more than four. You try to access a Commerce Server 2002 Web site. In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
Configuration object failed to initialize because Commerce Server Standard Edition supports a maximum of two processors (CPUs)
Note This problem does not occur if you install Commerce Server 2002 on a Windows Server 2003-based computer.
This problem occurs because Commerce Server 2002 Standard Edition only supports two processors. However, Commerce Server 2002 counts the individual CPU cores as physical processors. For example, this problem occurs if the computer has two physical processors but has four CPU cores.
