SYMPTOMS

When you create a new collection by using the Distribute Software wizard in Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003, the new collection does not appear in the user interface. This symptom occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You run the Distribute Software wizard in SMS 2003 to distribute software.
  • In the Distribute Software wizard, you create a new collection as the advertisement target.
  • The current user account does not have the Read right to all instances of the Collection class.
When these conditions are true, the new collection does not appear in the user interface. Therefore, you cannot distribute software to the new collection. Additionally, when you query the collection_subcollections table, no entry is returned for the new collection.

RESOLUTION

After you apply this hotfix, newly created collections will appear in the user interface and in the collection_subcollections table. Also, the option to create a new collection will be disabled if the current user does not have sufficient security rights to create a new collection.
