The operation fails on some client computers when you try to distribute software updates by using Systems Management Server 2003
You try to distribute software updates to client computers by using Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003. However, the operation fails on some client computers. Additionally, the applied updates incorrectly appear as "applicable" in the compliance report on some client computers.
Additionally, error messages that resemble the following error messages may be logged in the Patchinstall.log file on the client computers:
FAILSAFE TIMEOUT: UpdateID
Reboot is required by at least one software update UpdatesInstallMgr mm/dd/yyyy 00:00:00 PM 1848 (0x0738)
This problem occurs because a previously installed software update is waiting for the computer to be restarted to complete the installation. Therefore, the update installer cannot handle the software updates that you are currently trying to distribute.
To resolve this problem, restart the client computers that experience this problem.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
