You cannot remove the GUEST account after you install the SQL Server 2005 client tools on a computer that has the SQL Server 2000 client tools installed
You have a computer that has the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 client tools installed. You install the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 client tools on the computer.
For instances of SQL Server 2000 that are registered in Enterprise Manager, the GUEST account appears in all databases of these instances. This problem occurs even if you have removed the GUEST account from the databases before you install the SQL Server 2005 client tools.
Additionally, when you try to remove the GUEST account from the databases, you receive the following error message:
Error 15008: User 'guest' does not exist in the current database.
This problem occurs because some DLLs of the SQL Server 2000 client tools are updated after you install the SQL Server 2005 client tools. The following table lists the updated DLLs.

These DLLs are located in the following folder:
%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn
To work around this problem, follow these steps:
- Close SQL Server Enterprise Manager.
- Open the following folder:
%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn
- Back up the Sqldmo.dll file in the Binn folder that you opened in step 2.
- Download the SQL Server 2000 service pack that matches the SQL Server 2000 service pack level that is installed on the computer.

How to obtain the latest SQL Server 2000 service pack
- Extract the Sqldmo.dll file from the SQL Server 2000 service pack package. To do this, follow these steps:
- Extract the package.
- Locate the Sqldmo.dll file in the following folder:
ExtractedPath\x86\binn
Note ExtractedPath represents that folder where you extract the package.
- Copy the Sqldmo.dll file that you obtained in step 5 to the Binn folder that you opened in step 2.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
