Links in the Quick Launch bar do not work as expected in SharePoint Server 2007

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, a link in the Quick Launch bar does not work as expected. For example, a link may incorrectly point to the Shared Documents document library instead of a folder in the Shared Documents document library.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • You create a site. In this site, a link in the Quick Launch bar points to a folder in a list.
  • You save the site as a template.
  • You use this template to create a different site.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps.

Note This workaround requires Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007.
  1. Open the Web site in SharePoint Designer 2007.
  2. Click the Navigation tab, and then double-click the node for the link in the Quick Launch bar. For example, double-click the node of the folder in the Shared Documents folder.
  3. In the Address box, modify the URL so that the URL is Web relative, and then click OK. For example, change the URL from "http://Server/Site/DocumentLibrary/Folder" to "DocumentLibrary/Folder," and then click OK.
Note If you edit the node by using Office SharePoint Server 2007, you have to follow these steps again to modify the link.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007
  • Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
