This hotfix fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

You configure a server that is running Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 as a query server. The query server initialization may fail because the CiFiles folder cannot be deleted. Additionally, an event that resembles the following is logged:

Event Source: Office SharePoint Server
Event Category: Office Server Shared Services
Event ID: 6482
Date: Date
Time: Time
User: N/A
Computer: ComputerName

Description:
Application Server Administration job failed for service instance Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchServiceInstance (886fe45c-ec23-432d-a3f7-b9356fecffca).

Reason:
Access to the path 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\12.0\Data\Office Server\Applications\f41bace1-ecc8-4236-9f40-6e87237ed9d4\Projects\Portal_Content\Indexer\CiFiles' is denied.

Techinal Support Details:
System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\12.0\Data\Office Server\Applications\f41bace1-ecc8-4236-9f40-6e87237ed9d4\Projects\Portal_Content\Indexer\CiFiles' is denied. at Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchServiceInstance.Synchronize() at Microsoft.Office.Server.Administration.ApplicationServerJob.ProvisionLocalSharedServiceInstances(Boolean isAdministrationServiceJob)
