FIX: Event ID 36865 occurs when you try to run a Commerce Web site on a computer that is running Commerce Server 2002 Standard Edition and includes a quad-core CPU

On This Page

SYMPTOMS

You have a Windows Server 2003-based computer that includes a quad-core CPU. You install Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 Standard Edition on the computer. When you try to run a Commerce Web site on the computer, you receive the following error message:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Commerce Server 2002
Event Category: None
Event ID: 36865
Description:
Error in Commerce Administration Object : Description - 'GlobalConfig:Initialize : Configuration object failed to initialize because Commerce Server Standard Edition supports a maximum of two processors (CPUs).'

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Commerce Server 2002 Standard Edition only supports two processors. On a Windows Server 2003-based computer that has a quad-core CPU, the Cs45_ca.dll component of Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 Standard Edition counts the number of processors as four. This number exceeds the maximum of processors that Commerce Server 2002 Standard Edition supports. Therefore, you receive an error message.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Commerce Server 2002 service pack that contains this hotfix.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Customer Support Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Customer Support Services telephone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support (http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support)
Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.

Prerequisites

You must have Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 Service Pack 4 (SP4) installed on the server because of file dependencies.

Restart requirement

You have to restart the server after you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes.
